Legal Times: Strategic Focus Brings Dividends for Stoel Rives
Stoel Rives Firm Chair Alan Merkle discussed the implementation of the firm's five-year strategic plan in a Legal Times blog post. Stoel Rives is currently in the third year of its current strategic plan cycle.
"We're having a good, successful response to our disciplined implementation of our five-year plan," Merkle said. "We have applied our resources in a dedicated way that really focuses on collaboration, commitment and innovation."
Merkle stated that the firm's mergers and acquisitions, energy and litigation groups contributed to a strong financial showing in 2012. Healthcare and food and beverage will be important growth areas in 2013, he added. The Legal Times highlighted the acquisition of Method by Ecover to form the world's largest green cleaning products company and a $155 million jury verdict for King County as examples of successes the firm's clients achieved in 2012.
Merkle also discussed the firm's approach to lateral hiring and growth (see e.g. Stoel Rives Opens Office in Washington, D.C.). Merkle said that ensuring laterals mesh well with the firm's culture is of particular importance. "We're sort of old school and interested in the long-term benefit for the clients as opposed to opportunistic short-term gain."
