Overview
William Leo is an associate in Stoel Rives’ Corporate group.
William was raised in Portland, Oregon, and the Willamette Valley. During law school, William was a NETI Honors Program law clerk with the Environmental Protection Agency, Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance; a legal extern with the New York Attorney General’s Office; and a law clerk with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of New York. William also served as research assistant to Professors Michael Gerrard, director of the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law, and Madhav Khosla at Columbia. He is passionate about renewable energy projects, climate policy, and the clean energy transition.

Experience
- Assisted a team of attorneys and engineers in the enforcement of the Clean Air Act, including instances of large-scale and long-term violations.
- Conducted research on legal, economic, and political trends in developing areas of climate law and energy policy, including renewable incentive structures and GHG reduction strategies.
- Edited emerging environmental law scholarship and managed a team of editorial staff for the Columbia Journal of Environmental Law.
